#LUCKY BREAK

How often have you heard someone say 'oh man they are so lucky' you might have even caught yourself saying it once or twice. In the creative world so many of us pray and hope for that one lucky break that will change our careers, catapult us into the limelight and set us up for life living out our dreams in a fantastical castle full of rainbows and unicorns. But the reality of this ridiculous notion is that these so called 'lucky breaks' have only the smallest amount of luck involved.  Yes it can happen, anything is possible and some people do actually get a 'lucky break'. But it is only such a small percentage, and that percentage that this may happen too how often are they lucky enough to be around for a long time, a true lucky break isn't going to sustain your career for a very long time, no body is that lucky to drift through a 10 - 20 year career purely on luck. So why do you sit around and wait for that phone call?

#THE LUCK FACTORY

One of may favourite quotes is 'the harder I work, the luckier I get', everything about this simple little sentence is true. When you watch interviews back or look into the lives of all these famous people you are going to hear their stories more often than not have no luck involved. It's a journey full of risk, sacrifice and failure. The thing they all have in common is they didn't give up, they didn't sit back. Instead they picked themselves up from what ever hit they took and worked harder. Behind almost every so called luck story is countless hours of hard work. They pushed them selves and they didn't give in. Every attempt that might have met with an obstacle would just mean they needed to find another path. Turning their focus away from the waiting to the working is when things start to change, they produce their own luck and it looks so effortless it's just we haven't been privy to the journey it has taken them to get here. Create your own little factory and produce your own luck.

#IT STARTS WITH YOU

Now why is it that we can still look at these people yet do nothing to change our own perspective? Why do we continue to blame everyone other than ourselves? No one will read your script, your agent isn't getting you into the right doors where you can shine your brightest, I need to get a new reel or head shots. These excuses are our own worst enemy, nothing is stopping you right now from chasing these dreams and creating your own luck. Stop sitting by the phone, stop conforming to the system! There are no short cuts here however, it all takes time and hard work. If you really wanted to be successful in any field of work it comes down to hard work and lots of it, but also don't have delusions that just any work is enough, quantity isn't always a great thing, let's take McDonalds as a prime example, it's everywhere and as much as most of us eat it here and there we all know its shit, take your time and really focus. Make sure you are producing good work and be honest with yourself, if it isn't good enough work harder, get in those class rooms where you can practice, keep writing, keep filming. Don't brag about every single thing you are doing in life if deep down you know it doesn't cut it.  Not everything we do is amazing but you want to have some form of standards attached to your name. Be that change, don't wait for the change.
