Feeding the Beast

#HUNGER

It's not easy to chase a career in the creative world, yet there are so many of us out there trying to achieve it. However the longer you are in the industry, the more you watch people drop out, or bump into people who all say the same thing 'I used to do acting, really loved it'. So what is it that drives the majority away while the few keep at it? More importantly, what can we do to make sure that we never become the majority? We hear it all the time, that talk about passion. This 'beast' that burns so ferociously deep within our souls is the hunger that keeps us chasing. Despite that fire and how brightly it burns, it can dwindle if we don't feed it correctly and we choose to move on to more stable and financially viable jobs.

#STARVATION

If we don't feed this part of ourselves of course it's going to die. You can't expect to keep a fire alive with out giving it the fuel it needs to burn. This is the same thing. Though feeding this beast isn't the easiest thing to actually do. Most of us think the new headshot, new agent, the trip to LA, even going to watch that latest film everyone has been raving about, is going to satisfy our hunger. All of these things are junk food for the soul. At that moment in time it feels great, we feel inspired and believe we are going to be the next big thing, we just need to be noticed. Then that buzz settles and we notice that feeling is coming back, but faster this time. Our creativity is starving and that 'cheeseburger' isn't enough to fill you up. It's when our soul starts to starve we look for another alternative to fill this void that is seems to get deeper by the day.

#NUTRITION

When trying to fill this void consistently with junk, you can't blame your soul for just giving up and wanting an easier lifestyle. Think of it in the same way we feed our physical bodies. What you put in is also what you get out. The more junk you feed it, the more you struggle, and the more your body just can't keep up. If you constantly keep going for these quick little fixes to keep you in the game, eventually you will end up as part of the majority. Your dreams will no longer be possibilities but a memory. Something you used to do and used to love. Try feeding your passions with something far more substantial and rewarding.  Find a place that allows you to hone your craft on a weekly basis. Get a group together and create your own work. The internet makes this easy, you can be seen and build a fan base which can bypass the current system. Who knows what doors this will open. You will feel happier within yourself knowing you are now feeding you soul far more nutritious foods. It will thank you and you'll feel that creativity and passion thrive. Don't ever stop looking for these nutritious foods, just like gym if you only do one of these things you will find your body will plateau. Your creativity can also become comfortable so it's important you keep finding new challenges.

How do you feed your beast? I would love to know. Comment below and we can discuss :)  #findinginspiration
